August 2021 Member of the Month: Joe Petsch

Member of the Month

Joe Petsch started in the industry with a job at Wells Fargo Alarm Services and founded Franklin Alarm Company, Inc. (FACI) in 1985, specializing in Engineered Fire Alarm Systems. The company has grown steadily, employing 25 dedicated professionals, including three of Joe and Karen’s children who, it is hoped, will one day follow in their father’s footsteps. In 1992, Franklin Alarm became a Strategic Partner with Edwards Systems Technology.

In 1968, Joe became a junior firefighter with the Star Cross Volunteer Fire Company. He was Fire Chief for 25 years, and recently celebrated his 53rd anniversary. He was president of the Gloucester County Fire’s Chiefs Association from 1998-2004, and a member of the Radio Advisory Board and Incident Command Committees and is currently an Executive Board Trustee.

In 1990, Joe was elected as a fire commissioner for the Township of Franklin Fire District #5 and currently serves as Chairman of the Board.

Joe’s hands-on experience as a firefighter was an immense advantage for his business, since he knew first-hand how most alarm systems could respond to a wide variety of situations, and which would be most appropriate for each customer. In addition, Joe gained additional managerial experience as Chair of the Franklin Township Planning Board and member of the Economic Development Commission. From 2008-2013 he was a member of the Franklin Township Committee and served as Mayor and Deputy Mayor.

Joe believes that professional associations are another important part of helping others succeed. He has been an active member of the NJESLA, a past board member and past Vice President South. One of his proudest moments was his 2002 NJESLA (NJBFAA) Frank Smith Memorial Award for Public Safety. Joe is also a long-time member of AFAA – Automatic Fire Alarm Association and NFPA – National Fire Protection Association.

Joe considers himself “tremendously thankful” for all who have been there for him, especially the employees who are, as he proudly says, the very definition of a family business.
