NJELSA Apprenticeship Program

New Jersey Electronic Life Safety Association (“NJELSA”) is proud to announce that it has received approval from the United States Department of Labor (“USDOL”) to offer an apprenticeship program for the Protective Signal Installer trade - Rapids Code 0459.

NJELSA represents electronic security professionals, system integrators, fire alarm companies, manufacturers and distributors that do business in New Jersey.

NJELSA’s new three-year apprenticeship program will provide apprentices with several career advancement opportunities. Apprentices participating in the program will receive a combination of on-the-job training and related technical instruction under the supervision of journey-level professionals. Apprentices will earn wages and perform productive work, while learning the practical and theoretical aspects of this highly-skilled occupation. Upon completion of the program, apprentices will also receive a recognized industry credential that will allow them to advance their career over time.

NJELSA’s apprenticeship program will also greatly benefit its employer-members by helping them recruit and develop a highly-skilled workforce, while improving productivity and profitability. Additionally, the new program will ensure that NJELSA members that bid on public works remain compliant with New Jersey’s public works contractor laws. Specifically, New Jersey  law requires that public works contractors participate in a USDOL-approved apprenticeship program for each apprenticeable trade that they employ on any public works project, including protective signal installers, in order to obtain or renew public works contractor registration certificates.  This is the first apprenticeable trade offered by NJELSA. Participating in NJELSA’s registered apprenticeship program will satisfy the requirements to renew your Public Works Contractor registration for the Protective Signal Installer trade.

NJELSA is currently accepting registered apprentices and yearly ERISA Trust contributions for this trade. For registration and/or participation information, please contact NJELSA at 609-695-4444 or email christine@njelsa.org

If, at this time, you are only in need of obtaining or renewing your Public Works Certificate, you do not need to enroll an apprentice.  Click HERE for more information.
